IPIA is pleased to announce that it has received a grant through affiliates Ming Wen (Sociology), Lori Kowaleski-Jones (FCS) and Ikuho Yamada (Geography). Their 1.245 million dollar grant awarded by NIH will study neighborhood social and built environments on body weight and physical activity in a national sample. This is a great example of the multidisciplinary research that is being facilitated by IPIA. We congratulate the investigators and look forward to their continued collaboration. Thanks also to Cindy Brown for her help with the facilitation of this grant.
Policy at the Podium will feature a presentation on "The Effect of Increased Travel Reimbursement Rates on Healthcare Utilization in the VA" by Richard E. Nelson on Monday, February 22nd.

The Consortium for Research on China and the Chinese will feature a presentation on "Shifting coresidence near the end of life:Comparing decedents and survivors of a follow-up study in China" from Zachary Zimmer and Kim Korinek on Monday, March 1st. [More info and RSVP]
IPIA will host a presentation of "The State of Sex: Tourism, Sex and Sin in the New American Heartland" by Barbara G. Brents, Associate Professor of Sociology and Faculty Affiliate of Women’s Studies at the University of Nevada on Friday, March 5th. [More info]
IPIA, the Confucius Institute and the Hinckley Institute of Politics will host a presentation of "Changing Values of Chinese Youthand the Rise of Materialism and the Middle Class in China" by Stanley Rosen is the Director of the East Asian Studies Center and a professor of Political Science at the University of Southern California (USC) on Wednesday, March 31st.
